Land Transportation Office: This Office Should Shut Down

Guyz, I finally have a license. Getting my driving license is a big deal for me because I’ve been a racing fan since forever and learning how to drive a manual car just makes me happy beyond compare. Anyway, let me share my experience as I was getting my license.

We arrived at LTO at around 8 AM and immediately proceeded to fill up my form and have my medical exam done after. The medical was super super super super super (sorry for the lack of a better word) substandard, to the point that I honestly thought it was worthless. I’m sorry, but it just sucks so much. The process goes like this: 1) have your weight measured and your height asked 2) go to the second doctor and have your eyes checked using the optical illusions with the numbers on it and the usual eye chart. I hope that made sense while you read that because honestly for me it didn’t. I need/use glasses and my eyesight is pretty bad but guess what, I got 20/20. That medical exam cost me PHP200.

After that medical exam, I had to queue and wait to have my picture and signature taken. This part was pretty fast. Next was the written exam. To pass, you have to get 30 questions out of 40. It’s a tight one but the questions are for dumb people. I got 36 using common sense and by reading the reviewer they provide you before taking your exam.

Next part was my favorite, you have to wait for your name to be called (again) to find out if you passed or not. If you pass, you get to proceed to the practical exam. Here comes the amazingly shady part. Our group was asked to go wait by the mango tree and there we waited (yes we still had to wait) for the guys who said this to us “The car’s air-conditioning is not working properly. I know that all of you know how to drive and I trust that you’ll be careful when driving on the roads so I’ll just pass all of you. Just pay PHP600 to this guy for the ‘rental fee’ of the car and we’ll input your scores on the computer. If you have any questions regarding this, say it now. There was a time when I already inputted scores in the computer and then someone asked there was no practical exam.” Then there was this guy in our group who goes “I have a car, can I use that for my exam?” Then the other guy goes “Does your car have a brake pedal on the passenger side? Because that’s the only kind of car LTO uses and approves.”

Long story short, I didn’t get to drive the crappy car but I paid PHP 600 for its rental fee. After that shady deal by the mango tree, I had to wait for my name to be called for my license receipt to be released.

Honestly, I was half disappointed with myself because I just violated a personal rule which was to never take the easy way when dealing with government services here in the Philippines.

Sabi ah okay, tapos yung papel niya tinabi.

Huwag kang tanga dyan at magpa-cool. Please lang.

And yes, if kailangan and ma-prove na hindi ako worthy magdrive, go ahead, take my license. I’d rather not have it if I’m proven that I’m not ready to drive.
